Awake
My eyes are thick with the residue of dreams
Cloudy in my waking morn
And as the rays first brush my soul
My walking from paradise I start to scorn
The air I breathe is bitter sweet
Because in my dreams I cannot taste
Though in that world I get so much done
And my time awake seems such a waste
The last of the sand, thick and course
Finally washes from my eyes
As into the day I then set off
Despite my imagination's cries
And as I walk around that day
Taking in all that I see
I happen to stumble upon magnificent things
And wonder just how they could be
In the sky just floating there
Amidst the wispy fluff
I see a castle hanging there
On the edge the skies blue cuff
And the clouds surrounding that pearl white castle
Spray out like the rapids of a raging river
And emerging from deep within the white
Is something dark that makes me shiver
A storm of dragons come pounding forth
Crackling fire from their thunderous throats
And I see the leaf like villagers flee
In the gust they float away like boats
The dragons have finally all but returned
Back into the castle in the sky
But the tears let loose from their attack
Leave the ground I'm on all but dry
Though I walk away from the skirmish unscathed
I can't help but think what a powerful fight
So soon right after comes my next distraction
In the vibrant form of a butterfly's flight
It seems so short lived but fancy free
As it floats so softly to my feet
Wings of red and ashened black
Grayed and singed where the colors meet
And so the sun finally started to set
As the moon clocked in for her shift
Then I knew paradise was near
So my eyelids dropped and my spirit did lift
But I lay their restless
The day played back in my mind
And for once my day seemed right on par
With my thoughts at night after I've resigned
