Dragons, Not Butterflies
My heart is pounding
Trying to break my rib cage
The ground is evaporation
Beneath my very feet
And I'm heading for the sky
Catapulted by the sheer force
Shaking every atom in my body
Rattling all existence
In a way
That nothing
Has ever jarred the earth before
My past is crumbling through my fingers
Like water
And all I can do
Is watch
As it trickles away
And the dragons are screaming
To please be let free
Fighting the bonds
That kept them forever asleep
Taking my heart in their claws
Ripping free from my body
They take flight
Into something far more colossal
Than I had ever believed existed
Greater than the infinite
More perfect
Than any law
That governed being
They enter
For the first time
Into something unknown
I think I'm in love
She kissed me
