If you look up in the nightly sky
And see the stars are swarming round
Look to the center of their focus
And listen, intently, without a sound
You'll hear a voice across the skies
Filling the air with her song surrounding
It tells a tale of ages past
Of events you'll find to be quite astounding
A lady so glowing, rivaled by none
And beauty surpassing the fullest rose
She is the moon, ever full and white
As she sings about her deepest woes
There was a man, who lived for night
And her company at his mill of wind
She met him one eve, descended from high
Oblivious that, for her love, she'd sinned
Cast back into the sky next day
By powers unbeknownst to all
She cried great tears, floods of moonbeams
Saddened, and lonely, from her fateful fall
The man still slept unaware of the absence
Dreaming of her still lying beside
He finally awoke to see her missing
Then he was spiteful, had his mind lied
He mourned all light not collecting flowers
As he had done every day before
Waiting for darkness to shine its shadows
Waiting to see his lost moonbeams pour
The great moon rose, full as ever
Unavoidably radiant too
But in her eye, a swell of moisture
She was no longer white but a very pale blue
Just the slightest shade only she could see
But the man noticed it as well
He spoke to her asking of that night
But in response, only silence fell
Can you not speak one bit to me
Queried the man so awfully frightful
Happy for understanding she affirmed the question
Turning back to white and her eyes delightful
The man set off to find an answer
Hoping there'd be someone who knew
But only looking when the sun shone bright
So as to be with his love, to whom he stayed true
He searched every man, woman and child
On the land that there could be
And when his search was all but barren
He sought every person at sea
Battling vicious pirates and wild drakes
The man pushed till his muscles were strewn
But every night his body was restored
By his love, under the light of the moon
One solemn night out in the waves
Storm clouds thickened beyond repair
The man still waited as the storm approached
But finally, a typhoon, the man knocked to despair
Awaking in Poseidons palace
The man raged his story to the great water bearer
Seeing the concern and knowing no fault
Poseidon sveltely explained the misgiving error
That night the storm struck the man
A breach occurred in the deepest ocean
Poseidon's control had been stripped for a glance
In a struggle with that who caused the commotion
"And with your conscience obstructed
This unknown villain began to move
Drawing the moon right away
A chase ensuing by you I behoove"
The man then thanked the sea dweller and left
Accompanied with gifts from the king
He was given wings and a mystical trident
But best of all, for his love, a ring
He soared up to the city of clouds
Hidden from a lazy mankind
A place for people who love and believe
A place for all who imagine can find
The inhabitants knew of the moon
In all her purest glory
And as for what happened that fateful night
To the man they relayed their gravest story
"A stranger great with so much power
Cast a rod from in the blackness
He'd just emerged from the ocean below
And through the clouds he would recess
Now with that rod and positioned far off
He began to reel towards his horizon
Making a path, leaving night in its wake
He tried to pull the moon towards encroaching dawn
But your love resisted all she could
Able to push some night time ahead
So she wouldn't be caught up in the daylight
But stay in her dark night life instead
The beast continues to pull, but the moon only circles
Still taking night where ever she goes
But controlled by the monster that decides her position
A cyclical path only he knows"
The man thanked them all for what they had done
And traveled back to his windmill to watch
The sky finally darkened but no love did appear
In the distance he saw how the path would scotch
For the moon only ran over Poseidons realm
A place unchasable to the man distraught
He needed a way to reach his love
So he just lay there, deep in thought
A drop of rain fell from the sky
And landed right in the man's left ear
It whispered to him of curious plans
Directives to go to the nearest pier
He arrived at the wooden docks just before orange dusk
And waited there patiently as the raindrop had said
With a rumbling sound and crashing waves all around
Poseidon reared his mighty head
I've devised a way I think you can use
To catch up with your love, your moon
I only hope that my plan is strong
For you must be ready to part from here soon
The plan of course involved the see
And the path the moon was forced to take
A bump of water would carry the man
And tail right after the moon's apex wake
The man agreed to follow his love
So in darkness he prepared in the sea
The moon passed by swiftly as did the man
As he was carried by water, a high noble marquis
His love looked back to see him trailing
And shouted out in lyrical verse
How she had finally regained her voice
But suffered from this singing curse
The man still followed pronouncing his love
The moon replied the very same
Each were at least somewhat content
As companionship was their ultimate aim
But they longed to hold each other close
As they only once had
So the man vowed to continue his chase
Knowing the path was not at all gad
So the stories say
That forever he'll ride
Till his very last day
Chasing his love on the midnight tide
