Sun Rising
I saw the night kissing the sky
The light drawn thin
Lacing the heavens with navy and black
Closing us in for a midnight rest
Slipping so gently into slumber's sweet embrace
I lightly skipped between consciousnesses
And dreams
Dreams so light
So soft
So liquid in my grasp
That I barely feel them upon waking
Darkness still abounds
Wrapping around my eyes
Like the thick residue
Normally left by my dreams
But in the distance I see
Something stirring beyond the horizon
I don't know what's down there
But the sky looks on fire
Crimson, ruby, surrounded by smoke
And I look to the distance
To see morning rise out of the ashes
